Nontraditional Bridal Photoshoot Featuring Danielle Frankel Dress

I'm probably biased, but my little sister's bridal session is the best work of my career. She has been my muse for as long as I can remember and planning this session felt like the ultimate collaboration together. The work flowed easily because she has so much trust in me. I could run wild and she was down for anything I suggested. If you’re looking for inspiration for a nontraditional bridal photoshoot, this is a session you have to check out!

Nontraditional Bridal Photoshoot

Madelyne was a nontraditional bride and loved the dark and moody style. I knew we needed to embrace that for her bridal photoshoot so we chose a place with interior design that meshed well with her wedding colors and the style of her dress.

For her dress, she wore the Sasha gown by Danielle Frankel which features a high neck and open back. The silk draped over her like water so we utilized a lot of movement during her session to showcase the fabric. It's probably one of my favorite dresses I've ever photographed. It was made for her.

Crafting a Day That’s Authentically You

I like to think of a wedding day (and all the festivities that come along with it) as representative of your own personal branding. You are the blueprint, so it doesn't matter what anyone else does for theirs. My sister chose this location because of the jewel tones that acted as a foreshadowing for her wedding day style. She felt it complimented her dress and vice versa. Every detail she chose was so authentically her — it felt dramatic yet understated, modern and uniquely Madelyne.

Why Do a Bridal Session?

There are many reasons to do a bridal session including:

- It gives you an opportunity to do a trial run with your hair and makeup artists.

- It allows you to see the entire look put together for the first time and make adjustments if needed (e.g. I once had a bride realize her veil was the wrong color)

- You learn how long it takes to get dressed (valuable info for the wedding day!) You don't consider how much time it may take to get the dress buttoned up, veil in, fabric tape in place and jewelry on, etc until you actually get fully ready.

- Plus you get a little extra time to run around in your dress and have pictures taken. :)

My sister's bridal photoshoot was a true reflection of her bold, nontraditional style, and it reminded me of why I love creating sessions that are deeply personal and unique. Whether you’re looking to embrace a moody aesthetic, experiment with fashion-forward designs, or simply showcase your authentic self, a bridal session is the perfect opportunity to tell your story. If you’re ready to capture your personality in a way that feels true to you, let’s work together to create something unforgettable.
