Maternity Session at Mission San Jose in San Antonio, Texas

One of my dearest childhood friends Amber and her husband Aaren had a baby boy last winter and I was over the moon to document this chapter for them. From babies to having babies, it was surreal to witness.

We shot at Mission San Jose in San Antonio, Texas. It was founded in 1720 and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We had originally planned to shoot in the AM but there was bad weather. We rescheduled once before and her due date was approaching, so I didn’t want to push it but I already had another session that night in another city.

So we shot at 1pm. This is not typically “ideal” for a natural light photographer and I was a little nervous. But usually when I feel this way, deep down I know it’s a good thing because it will force me out of my comfort zone.

The skies cleared and we had the most epic sunlight. The results reminded me to let go of the “rules” you were taught and break them. The light bounced so beautifully off of the historic walls, it was like walking around with a reflector. She was glowing, literally. Some of my favorites were taken at the end in direct sunlight. We made it work and I am so proud of these images. It could not have been more perfect.

Motherhood looks so good on her.
