Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta 2022
This has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. I have written it on my calendar for the last 4 years and Iβve removed it every time because I just couldnβt make it work. It always takes place for a week and a half during the craziest month for Texas wedding photographersβ¦ October.
This year I finally put my foot down. For me 2022 was about getting back to myself again. Itβs year 5 of running a business, Iβm over the hustle to burn out pipeline. I want to live my life, while making room for my business, not the other way around.
I may have flown to New Mexico the day after a 9 hour wedding day, but I did it, and Iβm so glad I took that time to experience something for myself with a friend.
My old roommate in Spain (and current bride!) Derrien actually lives in Albuquerque with her fiancΓ© Sam. Theyβre only about 15min away from the fiesta location but we still had to wake up at 4am for the full experience. The balloons launch at dawn and the location becomes packed with people quickly.
I learned that hot air balloons are very sensitive to the weather so if the wind patterns are slightly off that day, they wonβt launch. It rained on our drive there and we were nervous. I only had 36 hours to be in New Mexico so this particular morning was my only chance.
Luckily for us, the weather cleared and it was such a cool experience! I didnβt realize just how close up we could walk among the balloons. The sky was full of over 600 of them by 8:30am. I highly recommend checking out the Balloon Fiesta for yourself!
